Cité de la voile Eric-Tabarly (Lorient)
The Cité de la voile Eric-Tabarly de Lorient which opened on April 5th 2008 and was designed by the famous architect Jacques Ferrier, presents us with very original architecture that contrasts with the site's original purpose.
The main body of the building which houses the museum space extends out into the 'Tour des Vents' (Tower of Winds), a real link between sea and land.
Visitors to the Cité de la Voile reach the Tour des Vents by a metallic footbridge which affords them panoramic views out over the whole structure and its sailing boats.
Thanks to its exceptional expanded metal design, the construction work combines with consummate skill steel's strength with the lightness of air, achieving modern very up-to-date results.

The Cité de la voile de Lorient is an excellent specimen of the new generation of buildings with an "environmental" design.
This project meets HQE standards which aim to control the impact of the actual building on the exterior environment and to create energy efficient interior spaces with heat recovery, photovoltaic panels, solar collectors, thermal energy production, and in summertime ventilation of the ground floor through the circulation of sea water, etc.
The Cité de la Voile covers an area of 6,700 m² and has 3,500 m² of exhibition space.
