Cement plant
Cement plant, Ivry - Elisabeth Veit, architect. ©J.-M. Monthiers - Special note from the jury prize AMO 2005
Text : The challenge for the architect Elisabeth Veit involved the enhancement of a cement plant situated on the quays of the Seine at Ivry. The intrinsic industrial nature of the building did not lend itself to fitting into a contempary townscape, but the modern regard of the architecte allowed these criteria to be redefined.
Treated as a monument and not as a simple production and storage unit, the silos were painted in lively colours and clad in a lattice-wall by Metal Déployé permitting, in part, the high visibility of the company name of Ivry Béton and, equally, a nocturnal lighting system which does not let the plant go unnoticed. This project received a special note from the jury at the AMO* 2004 concours.
